How is your gut connected to your mental health

By Daphne Clarance: There's no doubt that our gut health has a connection with our well-being. Gut health starts when we chew our food right till it is excreted. Each organ involved during this process has a special role in maintaining the gut.

Besides various functions, it also influences our mental health through the gut-brain axis. The microbiota produces neurotransmitters and communicates with the brain, impacting mood and emotions.

Dr Sukhvinder Singh Saggu, Director, Minimal Access, GI and Bariatric Surgery at CK Birla Hospital, said that the gut-liver-brain axis is a complex communication system that involves interactions between the gut, liver, and brain - all affecting our well-being.
