By India Today Health Desk: A non-sugar sweetener called aspartame, found in many soft drinks, is set to be declared carcinogenic by WHO's cancer research unit.
Aspartame is the world's most commonly used low-calorie artificial sweetener, which is approximately 200 times sweeter than sucrose (common sugar). It will be listed in July as "possibly carcinogenic to humans" for the first time by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), sources said.
The most common types of products that contain aspartame are Coca-Cola diet sodas, Mars' Extra chewing gum, some Snapple drinks and many more.
